Keeping up the Holiday Traditions

Hello and Happy Holidays! I'm Vicki Batman, romantic comedy writer, joining you today. Thank you, Liz, for the invitation.

Do you have holiday traditions? I love all things Christmas. I make a cheeseball. Send Christmas cards. Take a neighborhood driving tour with Handsome to look at lights. My girlfriends and I travel to a small town for their Christmas home tour, laughs, and chocolate (maybe some wine, too). People watching and checking out decorations at the mall. A big favorite is watching Christmas movies.

I like the classics like Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the Chuck Jones animated version). I love Christmas in Connecticut, Home Alone, It's a Wonderful Life, The Bishop's Wife. Here are some others you might want to check out:

Millions - Brothers find a duffel filled with money and can't decide how to spend it while hiding their discovery from their dad and evading the bad guy. The ending is cool. Directed by Danny Boyle, who directed the Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire

Star in the Night  is a thirty-minute, Academy award-winning nativity story set in a desert auto court. The end always always always has me in tears. Directed by Don Siegal, who went on to the Dirty Harry movies.

White Christmas – Most of you know this one. Two men team up with sisters to produce a holiday program to help their former Army General make a go of his inn. When younger, my sisters and I watched it on Christmas Eve, and I have carried on this tradition. And yesess, I cry at the end when everyone sings "White Christmas."

Yep, no Die Hard. :/  I substitute Stalag 17. 😊

Some of you read holiday books and stories – which is right up my alley, too. Besides writing romantic comedy mysteries, I also write romantic comedy shorts, Sommerville holidays, and Sommerville holidays too. Each book is packed with fun and romance and sure to tickle your fancy. Here’s a bit more:

Love blossoms in the small town of Sommerville in these heartwarming holiday tales, filled with fun and forever possibilities.

From Sommerville holidays:

Holiday Disaster: Days before Christmas, a librarian experiences plumbing issues and visits from Mr. Maintenance Man, who isn't nearly as jolly as Santa Claus.

The Littlest Angel: Two people. One ornament for the tree. Can a twosome find common ground and discover the true meaning of Christmas?

Holiday Handbag Extravaganza: Christmas Countdown is on! A hunk-a-licious customer pesters a boutique owner to locate a vintage handbag for his mother. Too bad the wedge between them is his sister, the meanest girl in town.

From Sommerville holidays too

The Great Fruitcake Bake-off: When a five-time baking champion teams up with her new neighbor for The Great Fruitcake Bake-off, they discover baking a prize-winning entry is complicated, bad guys are plotting to take the crown, and first prize isn't just about a ribbon.

Christmas Romeo: When two feuding co-workers win Christmas river cruises at the company holiday party, they discover each other isn't so bad after all.

Twinkle Lights: When the owner of a Christmas tree stand has a heart attack, a do-gooder and a reformed high school delinquent-turned-lawyer meet the challenges of running the establishment; yet, when revenue goes missing, fingers are pointed.

I hope you can check out my favorite movies and my books. Leave a comment, and I'll have a drawing for an e-book of Sommerville holidays and Sommerville holidays too.

Wishing each of you a loverly holiday season and a Happy New Year.

I'm in awe of writers who can do romance AND comedy. Your books sound so cute! I love your movie picks. Check out The Man Who Invented Christmas.

I love the Scrubs Christmas episode! Prancer and the musical “Scrooge “ with Albert Finney are my favorite movies. Driving around looking at all the lights is on my list

Great post.

We always have a family Christmas Eve dinner and then open presents. This always left Christmas day to visit with the rest of the family. Been doing it for 57 Christmases. Only difference is now my son and DIL make the dinner.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.
