What if It's Raining?

I knew I should be doing something this morning ... but it's raining. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, but there it is. I think it's a perfectly viable excuse. Predictably, I'd forgotten what day it is.
It's Saturday. For most of my life, it was my favorite day of the week. There was no school on Saturdays. No taking the kids to daycare. No doing early chores before going to work. I didn't have to get up early, but I did anyway because early rising guaranteed both alone time and having the precious day off last longer.
There were years that I worked Saturdays, when Tuesday was my day off. That made it easier to get errands done, but there was no specialness to that day. No thought of maybe we'd go out to dinner or to hear music or to see a movie. Even then, Saturday was my favorite day.
I also chose to post my blog on Saturdays. When I wrote for newspapers, they chose when or if to publish the Window, but when it was up to me, I wanted it on my favorite day because it's one of my favorite things. It's worked out.
Then I retired. Well, we retired. Since you've been hearing about this since 2011, I won't give you a litany of retirements ups and downs--mostly ups--today. I'm just going to reiterate a few things I may have said before.
One, Monday is now my favorite day of the week. Sometimes, on Monday, the grocery store isn't crowded and neither is anything else. Sometimes, on Monday, I think of or make up new adventures for the weekdays ahead.
Sometimes on Monday--and here's the second thing I've said before--I think it's Tuesday, or Sunday, or it doesn't feel like any particular day at all. I will wonder why Jeopardy is on TV, why the trash was picked up, or why we didn't get any mail. Or sometimes, why we did.
Because half the time I don't know what day it is. And on these days, I will know I should be doing something ... but what if it's raining?
Have a good week. I'll see you next Saturday. Or maybe Monday. Be nice to somebody.

P. S. This will be coming soon. More on that later. Isn't it a pretty cover? Thanks to Nancy Fraser!

I agree with Nan. Love that cover. I'm very new to this retirement thing, so I'm still looking forward to losing track of days. I find I'm also overcommitting. Everyone promises that this need will go away soon!
I love windows
Love that cover!!
