I'm happy to have Darlene Fredette back at the Window today. She's going to talk about Book 5 in her Redford Falls Series, but first she's going to answer some questions. I just love when someone agrees to do that, don't you?

1. What do you do on those days when you’re pretty sure the muse has died and you’ll never again write a publishable word?

I don’t think my muse has ever died. I have too many stories in my head and too little time. However, there have been days when I never thought I’d write again. The publishing world is like an ocean during a storm - it’s tough to stay afloat.

2. What was a best day of your life? A worst? (Feel free to skip this one—I know it crosses the line into nosiness, but I’ve been fascinated by it ever since the first time I saw City Slickers.)

A best day? That’s a good question. I have several, but the main ones would be my wedding day and the birth of my daughter. As for the worst? That would be the day my dad passed away. It’s been fourteen years, and it still feels like yesterday.

3. Do you have a favorite quote? Feel like sharing it?

I have two favorite quotes, both from Carol Burnett, who is my favorite female comedian/actress. “When you have a dream, you've got to grab it and never let go.” And… “Words, once they are printed, have a life of their own.” Both are relatable to my writing.

4. When you are choosing a book to read, what do you look for?

I used to read mostly romance books, but lately I’m leaning more toward mysteries, especially mysteries with a side of romance. I like a good who-done-it story with a happy ending. (Ah, a double whammy! I like those, too. - Liz)

5. What writer would you like to spend the afternoon with?

Unfortunately, she passed away in 2011, but my favorite writer is Penny Jordan. After reading one of her Harlequin books, I was hooked. I have a full bookshelf of her novels. Her Crighton series is my favorite. I would have liked to meet her and to chat about her books and all things writing related.

Legacy Lies Loyalty

A Redford Falls Story – Book 5

By Darlene Fredette

Blurb

When loyalty is tested, and lies run deep, the legacy they inherit could cost them everything.

Bound by a loved one’s promise, Jordan McKenzie is devoted to caring for the historic estate she calls home. But a string of mysterious accidents pulls her into a web of danger. When a hidden family connection surfaces, and an innocent kiss lands at the worst possible moment, she’s left questioning trust, devotion, and the people closest to her.

Chef Logan Crane returns to Redford Falls, hoping to claim an inheritance that could make his dream restaurant a reality. Meeting Jordan changes everything, and her warmth becomes an anchor in the storm he never saw coming. As old wounds reopen and loyalties shift, he realizes she’s the one person he can’t imagine facing the truth without.

With danger looming and long-buried secrets emerging, Jordan and Logan must decide

what—and who—is worth fighting for.

Logan turned and barely had a second to register how close she was before their lips met.

Jordan froze.

Heat surged through him from the unexpected contact of what he assumed had been meant

for his cheek. Without thinking, he pressed his lips to hers, gentle but hopeful.

She responded, hesitant but lingering.

Then Jordan abruptly moved backward, jumping to her feet and startling Miska into an

upright position. “I…um…that…”

“That was nice.” Seeing her cheeks flush a deep red, he couldn’t help smiling.

“Your aunt asked me…she wanted me to…she wanted you to know how much she loves

you.”

“Aunt Pearl never kissed me like that.” Chuckling, Logan rose and brushed dirt from his

jeans.

She shoved his chest and strode toward the ATVs. “That kiss was meant for your cheek.

You moved.” Jordan tugged on her helmet and motioned for Miska to hop into his seat. She

tossed Logan his helmet. “You weren’t supposed to kiss me.”

“A beautiful woman plants one on me, and I’m not supposed to respond?” He stepped

beside her and traced a finger down her cheek. “Unfortunately, I can’t tell your boyfriend our

outing was strictly platonic anymore. Because I kissed his girl. And I liked it.”
